General
Stairs
- Create good lighting to prevent dark stairs.
- Install handrails and/or safety treads for steps. Hold on
as you move down or up flights of stairs.
- Always keep stairs free of obstacles.
Bathroom
- Place non-skid strips or mats in your shower and/or bath.
- Use non-skid rugs on bathroom floors.
- Remember rails and grab bars make it easier for bathtub entry/exit.
Kitchen & Hallways
- Clean spills or slippery
surfaces, immediately before walking on them.
- Use rug gripper under
rugs or permanently secure them to the floor to prevent slips and trips.
Walkways
- Spread ice melt, rock salt or sand on icy walkways.
- Avoid using extension cords in walking areas.
- Arrange furniture to eliminate it as an obstacle in walking
paths.
General
- Always use an appropriate ladder for "high" jobs.
Be sure to follow ladder safety guidelines and warning labels.
- Place safety treads or mats on laundry room floor, edge of
swimming pool and diving board.
- Clean oil or grease immediately on cement floors.
These items can help prevent most falls.
